One of my favourite quotations is from Albert Einstein.
“There is a line. We are one side and God is on the other. By gaining in knowledge we can move that line…but we can never cross over it.”
I’m starting to wonder if Einstein was wrong.
In studying Kabbalah I learned that there is something called a Machsom, a barrier between our world and the Spiritual realm. Crossing this barrier is something we can work towards, but ultimately it is God that pulls you across. The description of the Israelites crossing the Red Sea to the wilderness in the Torah is such an example. They slaved away for years serving Pharoah or Egypt (which refers to one’s own ego concerns), and when they had enough they took a leap of faith and walked away from their ego concerns. That was their effort. As many spiritual wisdom teachers say…you make a tiny step and God does the rest.
This blog is a place for me to share my tiny steps and the miracles of understanding that continue to unfold on my path towards the wisdom of Kabbalah. I am deeply grateful for my Kabbalah study group, my Rav, and the books of wisdom that inspire me and increase my desire for the Upper Worlds.
May we all cross the machsom speedily and learn the laws of loving one’s neighbour as ourself.
